All Vermont students in grades 3-8 and 11 are required each Spring to take the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). SBAC is a computer-adaptive assessment measuring each student’s performance against the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics and English/Language Arts. Individual results will be available in the Fall. We plan to administer these SBAC assessments following a House Team testing schedule. The projected SBAC testing schedule at this time is:
Synergy: May 15-18
Mountaineer: May 15-18
Endeavor: May 22-26
Prior to testing, students will have the opportunity to take a practise test and to familiarize themselves with the SBAC system. Classroom teachers will work with students to access these practices assessments. SBAC has also provided a Practice Test for students and parents to view from home (http://sbac.portal.airast.org/practice-test/). The Practice Test does not provide a student score but gives the student a general sense of the type of questions that will be asked.
Vermont students in grades 4, 8 and 11 will continue to take the NECAP science assessment each Spring until we fully transition to NGSS standards. Fleming’s fourth grade students will participate in NECAP science assessments during the week of May 1. The shift to NGSS curriculum units of study has begun at Fleming School.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s participation in this assessment please feel free to contact Principal Ryan or your child’s teacher. For more information about Common Core State Standards and the SMARTER Balanced Assessment (SBAC) go to the following sites:
